Thanks for visiting kathysena.com!
I can’t think of another career in which I’d be paid to:
- Lose 15 pounds in front of millions of womansday.com readers.
- Strap on skates for a three-day in-line skating camp in Lanesboro, Minnesota and write about it for Shape magazine. (Yes, the mosquitoes were the size of VW bugs.)
- Interview automotive technicians, fashion experts, firefighters, homeowners, bankers — and talk with two different actors who’ve kissed Brooke Shields.
I’ve been a full-time freelance writer for the past 19 years. I received a journalism degree, with a minor in advertising, from Arizona State University.
For consumer pubs, I’ve covered lifestyle, automotive, parenting, social-media, women’s and health topics in addition to writing profiles and personal essays. I’ve received the Parenting Publications of America Silver Award for excellence in health reporting and I’m a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors.
My articles and essays have appeared in Newsweek (“My Turn”), USA Today, Woman’s Day, Family Circle, AARP the Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Shape, Chicago Tribune, Child, Weight Watchers Magazine and many other publications. My work also has been distributed through The New York Times Syndicate and Tribune Media. In addition, I represented Consumer Reports on Twitter for two and a half years as their social-media reporter.
My custom-publishing work includes writing for Time Inc. Content Solutions (Ford, Unilever); Campbell Ewald (OnStar, Carrier, AC Delco); King Fish Media (Albertsons); Nissan (Tech Talk, an in-house magazine for technicians) and Healthspring Communications (Every Woman magazine). In addition, I edit health newsletters for Health Media Concepts (AmerisourceBergen, McKesson).
I live in the Los Angeles area with my husband, our 16-year-old son and Charlie the rescue dog. My son recently completed driver’s training, and I lived to tell the tale. It’s all fodder for another article, no doubt.
